NYK Helios debuts at Southampton

NYK Helios (2013/158,000 gt) is the second maiden container carrier to call at Southampton this year after APL Dublin (2012/114,000 gt). The 13,208TEU vessel, owned by Hong Kong-based OOCL, has been chartered to NYK Line for three years following delivery by Samsung Heavy Industries in January.

NYK Helios operates a 77-day loop on the Asia-Europe service with a port rotation of Ningbo, Yangshan, Yantian, Singapore, Suez Canal, Le Havre, Southampton, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Suez Canal, Jeddah, Singapore, Yantian and back to Ningbo. OOCL has ten ships of the class on order costing around $136 million each.
