The Gosport Ferry company has revealed plans for a new vessel to operate on the short cross-harbour route between Portsmouth and Gosport. Houlder, a Portsmouth-based marine design and consultancy company has been contracted to prepare a design and build specification for the new passenger ferry for entry into service in 2014.
In order to fit existing infrastructure the new vessel will be similar in size and layout to the existing fleet. It will replace the 1966-built pair, MV Gosport Queen and MV Portsmouth Queen, which are becoming increasingly difficult to maintain. The company’s last new building, MV Spirit of Portsmouth, was introduced in 2005, four years after the MV Spirit of Gosport.
