Having made a high-profile arrival during a thunderstorm, the new Princess Cruises’ flagship, Royal Princess (2013/141,000 gt), had better weather for her first outing. The 3,600-passenger cruise ship is due to be formally named at Southampton by The Duchess of Cambridge on 13 June.
The newbuild features a so-called SeaWalk, a cantilevered, glass-enclosed walkway that extends 8.5 metres beyond the edge of the ship and 39 metres over the water. After leaving Southampton for her ‘maiden’ cruise on 16 June, Royal Princess will provide 12-night cruises out of Barcelona and Venice for the summer before repositioning to the Caribbean for the winter months. A sister-ship, Regal Princess, will enter service in Spring 2014.
