MV CMA CGM Jules Verne

CMA CGM Jules Verne (2013/160,000 gt), the third of CMA CGM’s new series of 16,020 TEU box ships has called at Southampton for the first time. The trio are still the largest container carriers in the world, although that will change when the 18,270 TEU Maersk McKinney Moller (2013/174,500 gt) enters service later this month.

The ship deviated from it’s normal route to make a special call at company headquarters in Marseilles on 4 June to mark the 35th anniversary of the shipping group. The Marseille-registered ship is named after the French writer, best known for his adventure novels ‘Journey to the Center of the Earth’, ‘Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea’ and the rather apt ‘Around the World in Eighty Days’.
