Longbow bound for Turkish breaker

The strange looking trials support barge Longbow has departed Portsmouth for scrapping at Aliaga, Turkey. The UK Ministry of Defence-owned platform was used to develop and test missile systems for Royal Navy warships.

It was most recently employed to support the development and range testing of the UK variant of the Principal Anti-Air Missile System (PAAMS), which is now known as Sea Viper fitted to Type 45 destroyers. As Dynamic Servant it was used in the same role in the testing of the vertical-launch version of the Sea Wolf missile system that equips Type 23 frigates.
