HMS York pays-off

HMS York paid-off from Royal Navy service with a 17-gun salute as she entered Portsmouth Harbour for the last time, with the ship flying a pennant marking her 27 years of service.

The Type 42 destroyer has clocked up 750,000 nautical miles since entering service in 1985. During her time she saw active service in the 2003 Iraq War, rescued refugees from the Lebanon in 2006, and more recently delivered aid to Libya. The ship’s final entry comes a week before she is officially decommissioned at Portsmouth Naval Base on 27 September.
