Cruising from Portsmouth

Whilst nearby Southampton maintains the lion’s share of the burgeoning cruise market in the UK as a turnaround port for the fleets of Cunard, P&O Cruises and Royal Caribbean brands, the recently upgraded Portsmouth International Port is fast establishing itself as a popular port of call for adventure, expedition and luxury small ship cruise operators.

The £16 million investment in a brand new terminal building, which opened in in May 2011, has attracted 35 cruise ship visitors  this year, with regular callers from around 15 international cruise companies. Formerly known as the Continental Ferry Port, Portsmouth is also the UK’s second busiest ferry port, after Dover, and a busy commercial hub where the majority of the country’s bananas are imported.
