Brazilian OPV on sea trials

The Brazilian Navy has begun crew training on Port of Spain, the first of three Ocean Patrol Vessels acquired from BAE Systems. Although the British-built warship is still running under it’s original name, it has largely been repainted in Brazilian Navy colours.

The ship is due to be renamed Amazonas at an official handover ceremony at Portsmouth on 29 June. Originally intended for the Trinidad & Tobago Coast Guard, the order for the ships were cancelled in 2010 when close to completion. Brazil subsequently bought them for £133 million in January 2012.
