The first of a new class of ten 14,000 TEU container ships for the Neptune Orient Line (NOL) has arrived at Southampton on her maiden voyage. APL Temasek (2013/151,200 gt) is the largest container ship to be registered in Singapore. The new buildings are part of a $4 billion fleet investment in more energy efficient ships.
The new design features a bulbous bow form and broad hull which combined with a long-stroke main engine is especially suited to varying loads and slow-steaming. NOL estimate they can improve fuel efficiency by up to 30% over existing tonnage. APL Temasek operates on the G6 alliance Asia Europe Loop 4.
